An emerald lake cradled by the Julian Alps, with a medieval castle perched on a sheer cliff at its edge and a tiny baroque church sitting on the only natural island in the country. In the early morning, before the day fully arrives, a traditional wooden pletna boat carries you across water so still and clear it mirrors the snow-capped peaks above perfectly. 7. Ha Long Bay, Vietnam — Sunrise on Still Water
Thousands of limestone karsts rise from water so glassy and still it mirrors everything above it perfectly. Low mist threads between the formations in the early morning quiet. From the deck of a private junk boat at sunrise, with a warm cup of coffee and nothing demanding your attention, it does not look quite real. Clients tell us it is the most peaceful morning they have ever had.

There is no rushing this one. You wait, out in the cold and the dark, far from any city light, watching a blank sky and trusting it will do something. Then it does. Clients describe standing in near silence, breath visible in the cold, unable to look away long enough to feel how cold they actually are. It is not a guaranteed show. 10. Bora Bora, French Polynesia — The Lagoon from Above
The plane banks low on approach, and the water below shifts through every shade of blue at once, teal, turquoise, a blue so saturated it looks hand-mixed, all wrapped around the jagged green peak of Mount Otemanu. Guests say the flight is its own event, faces pressed to the window, cameras forgotten. Then you land, step onto the dock of an overwater bungalow, and look straight down through water so clear you can count the fish without trying. It is the one view on this list clients photograph obsessively and still say the pictures do not do it justice. Some things you just have to stand above and see for yourself.
