Lisa's Dream Trip To Italy

Written by Tammy Murphy | October 28, 2026

I've been grinning at my phone for days, and I wanted to tell you why.

Our very own Lisa, VIP's travel concierge, has spent years helping put final touches on our clients trips to Italy. She's audited countless itineraries, caught the tiny details before they became big ones, and helped manage behind the scenes so each trip runs as smoothly as possible. From Amalfi Coast honeymoons to family escapes in Tuscany, she's had a second set of eyes on more Italian adventures than she can probably count. She knew the hotels, transfers, train routes, tours, and logistics inside and out. What she didn't know, until now, was what Italy actually felt like from the traveler's side. Because after years of helping manage everyone else's Italian adventures, Lisa finally went herself.

Now she has, traveling with her husband, Chad, and four dear friends, a group of six in all, and thankful doesn't even begin to describe how it felt to watch it unfold.

When we came home from Slovenia, Lisa walked off the plane with extra luggage. This time, she's coming home with too many memories to choose a favorite. The messages started rolling in from Venice: "We made it to Venice!!!! We are LIVING OUR BEST LIVES!!!" Then came a note to Justin and me from one of her travel companions that I truly cherish: "You have exceeded ALL EXPECTATIONS!!!!"And the messages didn't stop when they came home. A couple of weeks after their return, Lisa's husband, Chad, sent me a note that says it all:

“Girl… you NEVER EVER fail to deliver!! Now that we’ve been back home for a couple weeks it’s all still like a DREAM!! I just can’t believe we were actually there and did ALL THE THINGS!! Every hour of every day just kept getting better and everyday seemed to be MORE AMAZING than the previous. It was without a doubt the most SPECIAL and MEMORABLE time of our lives. I have no doubt that we will go back. I've had enough pizza, pasta, and Gelato for the next month but that's okay!!!! Again I just want to thank you for creating this UNBELIEVABLE EXPERIENCE that Lisa and I will cherish and talk about FOREVER!!”

There's something I've come to believe deeply in this business: we spend so much of our lives planning everyone else's joy that we forget to schedule our own. Lisa has spent years finding restaurants and hidden gems for other people's Italian love stories for years. This time she wrote her own chapter in one, and from the sound of those messages, the whole group is still smiling.

If there's a trip sitting on your heart too, let this be your nudge. Lisa's story proves the dream doesn't expire just because you've spent your time helping everyone else's come true. It waits for you to say yes.

Welcome home, Lisa! Now who’s next?

What Lisa Carried Home

Ask Lisa what she will treasure most about Italy, and I don't think she'll name a monument. I think she'll tell you about the people, and about laughing until her stomach hurt (and the vino of course).

It started in Venice, a city with no cars, where the water sets the pace for everything. Police boats, garbage collection, every service vehicle you would expect on a street, all of it gliding down the canals instead. No brochure thinks to mention it, and it may be the detail she remembers longest. By the time the first message reached us, the verdict was already in, all caps and all joy.

Then came a day you could taste. In Bologna, lunch and a little vino led to fresh tortellini taking shape under their own hands, and the market spread out in color, with vegetables, fruit, seafood, and cheeses piled high. Piazza Maggiore and the Basilica di San Petronio waited just beyond it. Florence followed with Michelangelo's David, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, and an afternoon with a real Italian leather maker who crafts purses, belts, and wallets by hand (even personalized for you).

Tuscany turned them into students, then into grape stompers. A cooking class came first, then a barrel of grapes and friends climbing in together, the kind of laughter that leaves you holding your sides. Lisa's report: "Tuscany... I LOVE YOU!" One of her friends took the stage next: "Lucy and Ethel had nothing on us." (Cue the reruns.)

In Rome came a moment no itinerary could have planned. Standing in St. Peter's Basilica, surrounded by visitors from every corner of the world, Lisa and Chad heard a familiar voice call out his name. A friend from home, in one of the most visited places on earth. Out of all the places in Italy, out of all the minutes in the day, they found each other. And yes, they have a picture to prove it.

Then the coast, last and loudest. "We made it to Positano!!! Absolute perfection!!!" A private yacht carried them along the Amalfi Coast and out to Capri. "An infinite amount of beauty... WOW!!!!!" Another of them summed up the day as being in awe and "grateful to share it with such wonderful friends."

And all along the way, the people. Guides who shared insights no guidebook carries. Vineyard owners who poured their wine and their stories in the same breath. Hands in the kitchen that turned a meal into an experience. Children playing and chattering away in animated Italian, completely unbothered by the visitors passing through their world. These are the moments we truly cherish, the ones we know will unravel if we choose “that spot” and let you discover the magic yourself.

For Lisa, this was never only a vacation. It was Italian heritage she has carried her whole life, finally meeting the ground it came from. There's a particular kind of homecoming that happens when you stand where your family's story began, even generations removed. The language sounds different in your ears, and the food tastes like something you already knew.

The group said it best: "Our hearts are so full!!! Italy has stolen our hearts!" The places got them there, but the people are why they'll go back. Not every trip we plan carries that weight. The ones that do remind us exactly why we love this work!

Why Every Dream Trip Deserves to Happen
Here's what I hope you take from Lisa's story. Life has a way of filling up the space we leave for someday. The trip, the anniversary getaway, the family reunion abroad, they all wait patiently in the back of our minds while we handle everything else first.

But someday isn't a plan. It's a placeholder. Lisa's Italy was a placeholder for years, and she turned it into a memory. One of her travel companions put it best after a day on the Amalfi Coast: "Some moments are simply meant to be felt, not captured." Your dream trip deserves the same. Wherever it has been waiting, it's allowed to move to the front of the line.

Let's Talk About Your Someday
If Lisa's story stirred something in you, that's no coincidence. Let's turn your someday into an itinerary. Reach out and we'll start building the trip that's been waiting on you.
