People Make All The Difference

Written by Tammy Murphy | September 09, 2026

I've been thinking lately about what ten years in this business has quietly taught me, and the answer always comes back to the same thing.

It's the people.

Not the destinations, as beautiful as they are. Not the five-star resorts or the private transfers or the perfectly timed sunsets, as deeply as we cherish all of those things for you. It's the people. The guides, the captains, the hotel managers, the local winemakers, the small-family operators tucked into corners of the world that most travelers never find. Over a decade, the VIP team has cultivated relationships with these extraordinary individuals that have grown far beyond professional courtesy. Some of them have visited us. We have visited them. They know our names, and we know theirs. They have become, in the truest sense of the word, family.

I want to tell you about the afternoon that brought this home for me in the most unexpected, joyful way.

On a VIP team trip to Slovenia, we arranged a boating excursion along the Gulf of Piran, departing from the charming coastal town of Portoroz and heading toward the medieval jewel of Piran. Our captain welcomed us aboard with the kind of warmth you only find when someone genuinely loves what they do.

Laid out before us was a spread of local cheeses, smoky salamis, and all the accoutrements you could hope for, paired with a glass of utterly delectable Slovenian wine that tasted exactly like the scenery looked.

Perfect.

As we made our way across that glistening water, we did what we always do. We talked to him. We asked about his life in Slovenia, his family, his story. And somewhere in that easy, unhurried conversation, he shared something that made every one of us go completely still and then burst into absolute delight. It was his wedding day.

Our little boat excursion was the very last thing on his schedule before heading home to get married that evening.

We raised our glasses immediately. We laughed, we cheered, we toasted his bride-to-be somewhere on the shore. And when we pulled into Piran and the boat touched the dock, his family was waiting for him, dressed and beaming, ready to sweep him off into the rest of his beautiful life. We cheered them all the way down the dock. I will be completely honest with you: we gave serious consideration to crashing that wedding.

That moment will never leave me. Not because it was planned, but because it was the opposite of planned. It happened because we took the time to actually know the people we work with, to ask real questions and listen to real answers, to treat every person in every port as more than a service provider. That is the culture we have built at VIP, and it shapes everything we do for you.

Somewhere out there, a Slovenian captain is celebrating his anniversary. We like to think we helped,

Why our relationships are your greatest travel asset.
There is a meaningful difference between booking a trip and building one. When VIP contacts a resort manager in the Bora Bora, a private guide in Tuscany, or a river cruise director along the Douro, we are not making a cold inquiry. We are reaching out to someone who has sat across a table from us, shared a meal with us, and built trust with us over years. That distinction is invisible to the traveler until the moment it matters, and then it matters enormously. Here is what that network actually produces for you.

Access that isn't advertised.
Our vendor relationships open doors that simply aren't listed anywhere. Private after-hours tours, reserved tables at restaurants with month-long waitlists, suite upgrades confirmed before you land. These are not random moments. They are the natural result of people going out of their way for colleagues they genuinely respect.

Faster, friendlier responses on the ground. When something unexpected happens during your trip, and in travel, something always eventually does, the person you need to reach already knows who we are. A call from VIP gets answered. A problem gets solved. You stay in the experience rather than worry about the logistics.

Insider knowledge that AI can’t replicate. The best recommendations we pass along to clients rarely come from a guidebook. They come from a captain who grew up on that coastline, a sommelier who learned from his grandfather, a concierge who has worked the same property for twenty years. That kind of knowledge is earned through relationships, not research.

The quiet confidence of being expected. There is something that happens when you arrive somewhere and the staff already knows your name, your preferences, and that you matter to someone they trust. It sets a tone for the entire experience. It is the difference between being a guest and being welcomed.Ten years of showing up, staying curious, and investing in the people behind the places has built us a network we are deeply proud of. More than proud, truly grateful. Because at the end of the day, the captain on that boat in Slovenia is still part of our story, and we hope, we are still a small, happy part of his.
