"Don't judge a book by it's cover". "The World is a Book, and those that don't travel only read one page".
Isn't that something that happens often in travel - your imagination or pictures you see on the internet can be quite different than the actual experience? Sorry, I digress . . .
From the moment we walked up to this unpretentious winery, the gorgeous old world door, the charming southern hospitality of Sarah Hill of Pontchartrain Vineyards was nothing short of amazing. Her love and enthusiasm for all things wine and history was contagious!
Our favorite quote of the day was "Don't hate on the grape"!! LOVE IT!! We began the tasting with chardonnay, which is NOT a favorite of mine, but Oh WOW, we were shocked at the smooth, beautiful taste. Sarah explained that the grape is always the same in a given varietal, so Don't Hate on the Grape, but the producer determines the taste. After a little more discussion, she suggested that possibly the chardonnay we've had in the past was stored in an oak barrell, but this chardonnary was aged in a stainless steel tank.
This made me think of how travel experiences can be judged by the destination. You may not think you like to do one type of travel or want to see a certain destination, but GO AND TRY IT if your traveling companion wants or likes to do something different than you. Most likely, you will be surprised at how many experiences you enjoy about a trip that you didn't even know were available.
Another thing I see many travelers do is ask for a trip the saw on facebook or a trip their friends took. You might be surprised to learn that it wasn't really the trip you wanted. Each traveler has their own likes, dislikes, and interests. Share with us the place or things you like and we will customize the trip to make it unique to you and your interests, many experiences I bet you didn't even know were available or haven't even reached your dream bubble.
The memories we cherish are the people and the experiences, not just seeing the sights. Seek the out-of-the-box or out-of-the-way vacations, I promise you will find experiences to cherish.
Because travel provides you with a unique opportunity to indulge without restraint, it can be difficult to assess which factors will contribute the most to your stay. Oftentimes, the best trips result from factors beyond the destination itself. So, rather than focus on how many stars your hotel possesses, focus on how many stars your experience possesses.
