Healthy Alternative to airplane food

Packing a healthy snack before getting on the plane is a great idea, but keep in mind that crossing international borders, security and customs are very strict about the type of food you can carry on.  Opt to purchase a prepared meal from one of the stores near your gate. 
 
Some great choices are:  fruit, yogurt, and sandwiches made with 100% whole grain bread and lots of vegetables, or salads with lean protein.  
 
A little trivia about why airplane food isn't the greatest . . . when we are 35,000 feet in the air, our senses can be shocked or our taste buds are numbed.  Experts say that cabin pressure can reduce our taste by 30% in addition to less than perfect heating options.  Airlines try their best to present tasty meals but we sacrifice healthy choices with tasty sauces and sodium.
