South America has an impressively robust collection of tastes and flavors - if you're looking for something new and different, talk to your lifestyle concierge about a vacation to one of the following places.

Montevideo, Urugray

Uruguay is a relatively small nation located on the coast of South America, just south of local powerhouse Brazil. The region remained mostly uninhabited until a few hundred years ago, after which the population began to shoot upwards. Insightful leadership has helped to transform the nation into one of the most prosperous in all of South America, and nowhere is this more evident than in its culinary delights.

Italian, German, and Spanish influences have all impacted the foods of the region, which often favor using beef and vegetables to create dishes like local favorite asado (beef roasted over coals, often with a salad on the side). Montevideo is by far the largest city in the country, making it the best place to experience the flavors of this land.

Salvador, Brazil

The northern part of the continent's most sizable country offers a very different take on food that your lifestyle concierge can help you get used to. Southern areas of the continent tend to prefer rich and hearty meals, but northern areas take advantage of the sun (and occasionally the rain) to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables. The end result is a selection of dishes that are often less filling, but far more flavorful - and ideal for anyone who wants to watch their waistline.

For a basic meal, the pupusa (a type of tortilla filled with meat, cheese, and beans) is a popular choice, while vanilla custard and rice pudding make for tantalizing desserts.

Rosario, Argentina

Much like Uruguay, Argentina has a particular emphasis on raising and consuming beef - however, the grass-fed cattle of this region tend to produce meat that's leaner and healthier than cattle who primarily feed on grain, making the average meal more nutritious than in many other parts of the world.

The city of Rosario serves as a major trade hub for the region, making it a fantastic place to look up dishes like the empanada gallega (a fish-based meat pie) or Argentina's own variation on the pizza, which uses a chickpea flour on top of the dough to provide a unique treat.
